Three Ensembles

The Youth Chorale is comprised of three levels of performing ensembles…

  1. Preparatory Chorus (starting with 3rd grade in fall/ 2nd grade in spring session): This ensemble focuses on refining the basics of good choral singing. Members will learn music reading tools, receive age appropriate vocal pedagogical guidance, and rehearse and perform with other young singers. Prerequisites – match pitch
  2. Camerata Chorus (MS through 9th grade): The Camerata is designed for the young singer who enjoys a challenge. Prerequisites – experience in music, recognize then repeat traditional and non-traditional intervals & age-appropriate intonation. note: 5th graders who wish to audition for this ensemble will be asked to read rhythm and pitch examples, they must have a history of music participation, have proven to be reliable and have displayed a unique maturity for their age during SVYC rehearsals.
  3. The Valley Singers (grades 9-12): The focal point of The Valley Singers is to provide the experience of performing with a refined small vocal ensemble. Literature performed may include Renaissance polyphony, choral art songs, classic and modern vocal chamber music, as well as vocal jazz and popular compositions.
