Singer Spotlight: James (Jim) Faust

April 2021

What is/was your occupation?

I’m a retired Cook Supervisor from the United States Penitentiary in Lewisburg. These days, I’m doing a multitude of odd jobs…substitute teacher at Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, substitute teacher at Sun Area Vo-Tech, equipment transport/set up for SVC, Santa Claus (with Mrs. Claus of course) during the holiday season, and yard boy/pool boy at home during the summer.

So…clearly not sitting on a recliner, haha! I guess it’s like they say…a body in motion, stays in motion. I think it’s great that you continue to give back in so many ways.

How many years have you been singing with the SVC?

14 years. I joined after going on a Bermuda cruise with several members of the chorale.

That was quite the bribe…err, I mean, recruitment method…elaborate, but obviously effective.

What was your favorite concert or chorale season to date, and why?

I really enjoy doing the POPS, although I usually like doing them all. I enjoyed participating in the Candlelight Christmas, however I’m usually too busy at that time of the year to sing, so I attend because it’s a highlight of the season.

I think most of our followers would share your sentiments. POPS always gives us a chance to really “let our hair down”, so to speak, and the Candlelight Christmas concert has certainly become an annual tradition.

Do you have any other musical involvements?

Our son and his wife are both music teachers in Tioga county and our grandson sings in his high school chorus, so we regularly attend concerts in Mansfield.

Fantastic! Do you have any other family members involved with SVC or SVYC?

Since we are basically joined at the hip…when I sing in a concert, my wife, Barb, can usually be found working as an usher, ticket taker, or general support whenever she is needed.

Ah yes…I’ve seen her many times. It truly does take a village for the chorale to function at its fullest potential, and we so appreciate all the volunteers that help make that happen. Thank you, Jim, and to everyone that has given their time and talent to the SVC over the years.
