Singer Spotlight: Christian Humcke

January 2020

What is/was your occupation?
I am resigning from my position as Director of Music and Organist at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Williamsport, PA, and will be taking up the position of Minister of Music at St. Paul Lutheran Church in East Windsor, NJ. My last Sunday at St. Mark’s is February 9, and I start work at St. Paul the following Sunday.

How many years have you been singing with the SVC?
I have been singing with the SVC for two-and-a-half years.

What was your favorite concert or chorale season to date, and why?
Tough to pick a season, but some of my favorite concerts with the group include the Candlelight concerts, the Spirituals concert with Essence of Joy, the Brahms Requiem, and the Ralph Vaughan Williams concert.

Do you have any other musical involvements?
Yes, music is my life. While in Williamsport, I also accompanied the Civic Chorus and was a Piano Instructor at the Robert M. Sides Family Music Center. When I move to NJ, I also plan to either open a private piano studio for lessons or teach at a local private school.

Do you have any farewell remarks?
I would like to sincerely thank Bill Payn and everyone in the SVC for making my time singing with the group so enjoyable. A special shout out to the basses who I routinely enjoyed talking with and getting to know. I may be going for now, but I’m sure I’ll be back to visit in the not-so-distant future. In the meantime, enjoy the music!
