Singer Spotlight: Liz DeSantis

January 2026

What was your first exposure to SVC…what/who inspired you to audition?

Two of my friends were singing in the SVC when I met them in 2006. We all had new babies at the time, and I was looking for music opportunities and social connection as a new stay-at-home mom. My friends encouraged me to audition, and I’m so glad I did. Singing with the SVC has been such a big part of my life since then. And now those babies are in college!

What do you enjoy most about being a member?

I enjoy the performances most of all; when all of our hard work comes together with our excellent instrumentalists. Some performances are exhilarating, others are deeply moving, and some are a toe-tapping good time (and many concerts are all three). Regardless of the musical genre, there’s always a moment in our concerts when I’m simply grateful to have ears! To be able to witness those sounds coming together is truly special.

How do you like to spend your free time outside of SVC?

I like spending time with my family, hiking in the woods, kayaking, and learning about local history. I also enjoy sewing and joined a quilt guild this year.

Why do you think it is important to support the arts in our communities?

The current digital age can be isolating, and we need real-life experiences. Attending a performance together creates a shared bond and a chance to get out and connect with others. We need the arts to be a mirror for our human lives, to inspire us, and to help us understand ourselves and each other. As far as live music, it’s the real-life “surround sound” that you experience with your whole body. You can’t get that from a pair of headphones.

What excites you most about the next era of SVC under a new conductor/music director?

I’m excited to continue learning and growing as a singer. Being a musician is a lifelong pursuit. I’ve learned something valuable from each music teacher and conductor I’ve known. This is an opportunity to be challenged in new ways and to see what we can accomplish together. I’m excited for this new era of the SVC!
