Singer Spotlight: David Gingrich

February 2026

What was your first exposure to SVC…what/who inspired you to audition?

Two of our church members (Frank Bastian and Shannon Borchert) have been members of SVC for many years. Both have wanted me to audition in the past but due to previous commitments, I was unable to attend the Tuesday rehearsals. Last autumn, those commitments changed so I submitted my interest in auditioning and was planning for the January timeframe. To my surprise, Adam contacted me and said I was able to audition with Bill in the fall for the Candlelight Christmas concert.

What do you enjoy most about being a member?

As a new member, I have felt welcome from the first rehearsal and have enjoyed getting to know the other members of the bass section. The Member Support Committee was there to make me feel right at home and answer any questions, while providing me with all the information necessary as a new member joining mid-season. I have thoroughly enjoyed singing each week with the outstanding leadership of Bill Payn and the voices that surround me. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to sing with this group.

How do you like to spend your free time outside of SVC?

My wife recently retired and we both enjoy traveling. We love to visit family that live in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan and New Mexico. One of our sons lives in Colorado and I get to spend several weeks with him each summer fly fishing, hiking, and whitewater rafting. With retirement, I have been able to spend more time volunteering with our church (Shiloh UCC in Danville) and other organizations in the area.

Why do you think it is important to support the arts in our communities?

Supporting the arts is essential for creating a vibrant and connected community. When you look closely, the arts quietly hold together so many parts of a strong society. The support needs to include community-based organizations such as SVC and fine art programs within our schools.

What excites you most about the next era of SVC under a new conductor/music director?

While I love tradition, I am also one to embrace change. I look forward to a new director that will bring change but hold on to traditions of SVC.
