Singer Spotlight: Katherine Furlong
September 2025
What was your first exposure to SVC…what/who inspired you to audition?
Not long after I moved to the area, a friend offered me tickets to see the 2017 Rogers and Hammerstein Pops concert at Weber Auditorium. It was a wonderful experience, and I thought, “What a fabulous group!” Not long after, I was at a neighborhood holiday party in Selinsgrove. We ended the evening sitting around the piano and singing carols. Amy Caron and I were harmonizing, and Amy invited me to audition—and even drove me to rehearsal. The rest is history!
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
Group singing is good for my body and soul. The high caliber of our singers keeps me learning and engaged and happy.
How do you like to spend your free time outside of SVC?
Baking, exercising (running with my two collie dogs, Pilates), gardening, reading, and traveling.
Why do you think it is important to support the arts in our communities?
Arts are the connective tissue that make our communities human and humane. They are a public good, and should be supported as such.
What excites you most about the next era of SVC under a new conductor/music director?
The unexpected! New ideas, techniques, and exploring new repertoire.
