Singer Spotlight: Carson Witherite

October 2025

What was your first exposure to SVC…what/who inspired you to audition?
I remember attending a POPS Concert while in high school and being captivated by the choral numbers, soloists, and Bill’s many costumes! Some mentors of mine were involved with the chorale, and I was eager to increase my opportunities to participate in choral excellence. I then auditioned as a senior in high school and continued as the first Bass I Scholarship Singer. Now I’m back in the area singing as a young professional!

What do you enjoy most about being a member?
What is great about being a member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale is that you are exposed to such a wide variety of repertoire. A season with the chorale has something for everyone! Classic works like the Verdi Requiem and Handel’s Messiah, new compositions such as the Dylan Oratorio and Glasgow’s Gloria, traditional programs like Candlelight Christmas, impactful musical messages like Alzheimer’s Stories and Jenkins’s The Peacemakers, plus recognizable tunes at the POPS concerts.

How do you like to spend your free time outside of SVC?
I like to spend time with my wife and fellow singer, Jessica Strouse (now Witherite), watching true crime documentaries, spending time outdoors, and playing various games together.

Why do you think it is important to support the arts in our communities?
Supporting the arts in your local community is essential. Even in the Susquehanna Valley, we have high-caliber talent that rivals the talent you would find in other American metropolises. You don’t need to travel to see musical excellence. It is right in your very backyard and you may even recognize some of the participants.

What excites you most about the next era of SVC under a new conductor/music director?
A new director is exciting because it will bring a new vision and perhaps repertoire while still maintaining our mission of providing choral excellence in our community.
