Singer Spotlight: Andrew Paulhamus
December 2025
What was your first exposure to SVC…what/who inspired you to audition?
I relocated to northern Pennsylvania on a part-time basis after the pandemic—and I searched for a chorale that performed a variety of genres. Fast forward a few years, I relocated to Pennsylvania permanently and I have been singing with the SVC since.
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
I enjoy the music most of all; learning new music, rehearsing with fellow singers, and that moment during a concert when the music envelopes me.
How do you like to spend your free time outside of SVC?
I live on a generational working dairy farm. Suffice it to say, the farm occupies most of my free time! Aside from farm work, though, I spend my free time enjoying all aspects of art and culture.
Why do you think it is important to support the arts in our communities?
The arts normalize a level of vulnerability … to create, to observe, to consume, to critique … but also to lose one’s self a bit and see the world with a level of empathy. Communities without some level of arts makes life seem, well, a bit performative.
What excites you most about the next era of SVC under a new conductor/music director?
Since the chorale was founded in 1969 the world has changed significantly, but a passion for choral music has remained constant. I am excited to see the next chapter of the chorale and how our music continues to inspire.
