Greetings! Serving the region's young singers with artistic excellence, the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale(SVYC) has been an educational outreach of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale since 1993. Complementing existing school music programs, it gives talented young singers the opportunity to sing at an advanced level with other highly motivated singers from throughout the valley.
Our singers had a wonderful, rewarding season. A November 2009 concert at First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, featured harp and piano accompaniment, and our March 2010 concert at Susquehanna University included more than 60 voices, accompanied by dulcimer, piano, and percussion. The SVC Opera Concert and the Nick Page Community Sing in the spring of 2010 gave many members other exciting opportunities to perform. It was quite a year!
The 2010-2011 Youth Chorale will be comprised of these three performing ensembles:
- Preparatory Chorus (starting with 3rd/2nd grades fall/winter): This ensemble focuses on refining the basics of good choral singing. Members will learn music reading tools, t receive age appropriate vocal pedagogical guidance, and rehearse and perform with other young singers.
- Camerata Chorus (through 9th grade): The Camerata is designed for the young singer who enjoys a challenge. In addition to refining their music reading skills and vocal technique, singers will also explore choral literature that exposes them to intricate rhythms, foreign languages, and other cultures, all challenging them to become passionate singers.
- The Valley Singers (grades 9-12): Primarily an a cappella ensemble, the focal point of The Valley Singers is to provide the experience of performing with a refined small vocal ensemble. Literature performed will include Renaissance polyphony, choral arts songs, classic and modern vocal chamber music, as well as vocal jazz compositions. We are looking for young singers who have music skill, a passion for singing and who would like to make music with others similar to them.
SVYC looks forward to the with a fall session in Lewisburg and a winter session in Selinsgrove. The fall session culminates with a joint holiday concert of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale and Commonwealth Brass Quintet, and the winter session with our own Youth Chorale concert..
are scheduled on June 3 and Sept. 9, (grades 3 - 9), for the 2010 fall session. Auditions for the 2011 winter session will be held on December 4 (grades 2 - 12). New voices are welcome! There is an ensemble for virtually any young singer.
Note: Singers are placed in groups largely by age or experience.
